Power Tour

2018 Power Tour - Epilogue

This, the 24th edition of the Hot Rod Magazine Power Tour is in the books and Mothers Polish has been a proud supporter and participant in each and every single one. Now, take a look at this Roadster. I can assure you that the owner is most assuredly not one of the target users of our Mothers Polishes, Waxes, and Cleaners. But Mothers isn’t here to singularly exploit a potential promotional opportunity. Not at all. Mothers goes on the Tour because of our sheer adulation for everything this crazy, mixed up, wondrous road trip has to offer. Suddenly, I'm instilled with a moment of clarity, the realization that I’m in it for the love too, that is for the love of the phat check Amy from Accounting is going to cut me for my work here. Yeah, baby, I’m gonna make it rain! Well, at the very least it will be a mild drizzle, after taxes. Speaking of rain, here’s a man who’s reigned supreme (see what I did there?) over a very exclusive group of Power Tour long haulers – those who’ve gone all the way on every single Tour since the dawn of time (okay, 24 years, but allow me a bit of journalistic license for effect). Our own Forrest Tosie is the longest of the long haulers and he’s got the stories to prove it. In fact, I think I heard him mutter something about sending out the first of our Power Tour blog posts by fax. I just hope he remembered to put a cover sheet on those damn TPS reports. Then there’s this guy. Our own Shane Christman. I believe he serves as Mothers’ Brand Director, or is he the Director of the Brand? Either way, he’s sort of a big deal. At least that’s what he keeps telling me. But while on Tour, Shane’s less on brand and more of The Man, doing everything from leading our pack on the road from behind the wheel of our camera car to navigating our route each day. It looks like a really hard job, at least that’s what I can gather between naps. Now, look at his face. That’s the same look he gives me every year when he discovers that I’m going to be riding with him yet again. Come to think of it, it’s the same face I get from my online dates when we first meet. And what of this fully-charged, two-wheeled terror here? Our own Jim Holloway is always up for a good time and thanks to his boundless contact list, he always delivers one to us with private tours and special stops. In between all this, our driven man really likes to drive. Jim proved his love for driving by driving the wheels off our Callaway AeroWagen. His skills were good enough to win the Power Tour Sponsor Shootout. As if this wasn't enough, Jim also took the second spot on the podium with our Shelby Terlingua Mustang (because you're only as good as your last victory). Next year, we'll expect a complete sweep of the podium. Get to it, Jim! I mentioned Jim's contact list (from which I believe I'm still blocked for cat meme-related issues). He definitely hooked us up during this year's trip, with special visits to Advanced Plating, Goolsby Customs, Johnson's Hot Rod Shop and a behind the scenes look at Petty's Garage. I was a bit disappointed with Forrest though, as I was expecting to visit to the birthplace of at least one civil war officer named Beauregard. That's the beauty of Power Tour. The journey is what makes it so much fun. And at times, we may have had a bit too much fun. Sorry again for the friendly fire on the front end of Steen's Chevelle. At least Mrs. Steen can take comfort in knowing he was on his best behavior throughout the entire Tour... as far as you know. I'm always astounded by the sorts of rides that go all the way on Tour. It's a well-earned badge of honor to complete the Tour in something like this. Although things don't always go according to plan, and that's okay. But the friendships forged over 1200-mile road trip always make for unbreakable bond. And new or old, it doesn't matter what you drive. Okay, who's coming with us next year? I for one, can’t wait until the 25th anniversary of the Power Tour(remember, it's the silver, in case you're stuck for gift ideas). As always, I can’t thank Mothers enough for letting me tag along on the Tour. In case you want to relive all the good, bad, and the ugly (apologies, not sure how my bathroom selfies got in there) check out our 2018 Power Tour posts and galleries here. Now, I'm off to bed, please wake me in time for the 2019 Tour. John Naderi for Mothers® Polishes•Waxes•Cleaners facebook.com/mothersusa
